About Our Research Study
The purpose of this study is to see if an investigational medication is effective for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
This study aims to determine whether the study drug gabapentin changes the amount of GABA in the brain.

We will also study whether this study drug has any benefit on social communication in adolescents with ASD.

Is this study for my child?
Your child may qualify for this study if meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:
  • Have an ASD Diagnosis
  • Between the Ages of 13 and 17
  • No major medical, psychiatric or neurological disorders
  • No substance use disorder, No usage of Gabapentin
What will happen if my child participates in the study?
All Participants will:

  • Be in this research study for approximately 8-10 weeks which includes 6-7 visits.
  • Take a study drug called gabapentin three times a day for 8 weeks.
  • Have three MRI scans during the study and two blood draws.
  • Have a Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment, and Measures of Social Cognition
