Stonybrook University is conducting a research study designed to examine how brain inflammation impacts the brain function of three groups of people: adults living without memory problems, those with mild memory problems, and individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Our researchers are looking to partner with adults, 55+, to learn more about the brain mechanisms behind Alzheimer's disease to inform future treatments used to prevent or protect against Alzheimer's.

Why is this study being done?
This research study aims to examine the relationship between brain inflammation and Alzheimer's disease. Researchers hope that learning more about the brain mechanisms behind Alzheimer's disease can inform future treatments used to prevent or protect against Alzheimer's.
Is this study for me?
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Key Criteria:
  • Age 55+
  • Diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, a Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), OR have healthy brain function
  • Can complete an MRI (no unremovable metal in body)
What will happen if I participate in this study?
Once enrolled, this study involves:

  • 2-4 visits to Stonybrook University
  • Brain imaging (both MRI & PET)
  • Confidential interviews and questionnaires
Will I be paid for being in this research study?
Compensation up to $400 is provided for your time.
Will it cost me anything to participate in this study?
There is no cost to participate in this study.
