Medical University of South Carolina researchers in Charleston and at Shoreline Behavioral Health, Myrtle Beach, are conducting a research study designed to examine how a medication may improve stress response and reduces drug cravings and opioid use in individuals currently taking buprenorphine or methadone.

Why is this study being done?
The purpose of this study is to examine if a medication may improve stress response and reduce craving and opioid use in individuals who are currently taking buprenorphine or methadone. Participation in this research may inform future treatments used to help opioid users.
Is this study for me?
You may qualify for our study if you meet the following criteria.

Key Criteria:
  • 18-65 years of age
  • On a stable dose of daily buprenorphine or methadone for at least 2 weeks
What will happen if I participate in the study?
Once enrolled, this study involves:

  • In-person and virtual study visits
  • Blood draw, EKG, saliva and urine drug screens
  • Personal surveys, interviews, and a stress task
  • Random assignment to study medication or placebo
  • Use of study monitoring app
Will I be paid for being in this research study?
Compensation up to $1300 is provided for your time.
Will it cost me anything to participate in this study?
There is no cost to participate in our research study.
