Study Background People living with HIV who suppress the virus can live long and normal lives. However, certain lifestyle factors, such as smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise, and substance abuse can lower the quality of life for those with HIV. Since these factors can be changed, they can be targeted in treatment to improve the health and well-being of people living with HIV. Our study aims to understand how certain behaviors affect the health of people with HIV. Better understanding this will help our research team better support the HIV community. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the co-prevalence of substance use, low physical activity, and poor dietary patterns in People Living With HIV (PLWH) in Louisiana to determine the relationships among these unhealthy behaviors.
You may be able to participate if you meet the following criteria:

- 18+ years old
- Documented HIV infection
- In care at an HIV specialty
Exclusion criteria:
- Pacemaker or other implanted electronic device
- Pregnancy, incarceration, or cognitive impairment
Your expected time in the study will be about 1 week and consists of 1 study visit and then tracking activity for 7 days. After qualifying for the study, there will be 1 study visit. The visit will last about 3 hours and consist primarily of filling out questionnaires, along with measurement of vitals and height/weight, etc. You will then be sent home with a step counter (e.g., Fitbit device) to wear for 7 days and then return.
You will be compensated up to $100 for your participation.
There is no cost for you to participate in this research study.
