The last few decades of research have been dedicated to identifying who is at risk of suicide, but recent technological advances have allowed the focus to shift to when people are at risk. Suicidal thoughts can vary greatly within a single day, and our research works toward creating more accurate models to predict when someone is at risk.
This study will use an Android app to passively and continuously collect data from your phone. Assessing patterns from text messages, social media, and other emotional/stressful content could lead to a better time-specific prediction of suicide risk.

This study aims to test whether an app that passively collects smartphone data in the form of regular screenshots while your phone is in use can help detect suicidal thoughts and behaviors, as well as model immediate risk factors.
You may qualify for our study if you meet the following criteria.

- 18+ years of age
- Have experienced suicidal thoughts or behaviors in the past month
- Own an Android smartphone
Once enrolled, this study involves:
- A study visit at the University of Notre Dame, where you will complete interviews and questionnaires
- Using a smartphone application for 5 weeks to answer daily questions about your experiences and monitor your smartphone use
- Self-report questionnaires to complete after the study is over
Compensation up to $225 is provided for your time.
