About Our Research Study
Help researchers at NYU Langone Health understand how lifestyle and environmental factors influence health and fertility through a research study. The purpose of NYC FREE is to collect data needed to understand how people’s background health, behavior, and everyday exposures — to things like pollution, plastics, and pesticides — affect their reproductive potential. We’ll ask you to fill out questionnaires, come in for periodic study visits in which we’ll take some basic measurements including body composition and blood pressure, and provide biospecimens such as urine, blood, saliva, and semen (if applicable). The data we collect will be used to research fertility, pregnancy, and risk factors for childhood and adult diseases that may lead to better and more effective treatment options and improvement in quality of life. The overall aim of this project is to futher research on fertility, pregnancy, and risk factors for childhood and adult diseases that may lead to better and more effective treatment options and improvement in quality of life.
You may be eligible to participate in our study if you meet the following criteria.

- Between 18-50 years old
- Biologically able to become pregnant or impregnate another
- Intending to have a child any time in the future
- Not currently pregnant
All participants will be asked to complete a baseline questionnaire and dietary survey and to attend a baseline in-person study visit. The baseline questionnaire will ask you about your background, your reproductive and general health history, your sleep and activity level, what medications you may be taking, and environmental factors you may be exposed to in your everyday life. In the baseline visit, we will collect biosamples (blood, urine, saliva, and semen if applicable), and measure your height, weight, blood pressure, and body composition.
If you’re not open to becoming pregnant at this time, that’s it — we’ll see you again in a year! If you are open to becoming pregnant, we’ll ask you to collect monthly urine and semen samples at home, complete a brief check-in questionnaire every three months, track your menstrual cycle and intercourse and/or fertility treatment, and return for follow-up visits every six months.
You may additionally be asked to wear monitors that track your environmental exposures to things such as air pollution or flame retardants for one week at a time.”
