About Our Research Study
The University of Colorado is conducting a research study to learn more about the effects of THC on teens and young adults. Adolescent cannabis use is associated with several long-term consequences later in life, but more research is needed to understand the short-term effects. Our researchers want to study how cannabis use may influence young people's mood, mental health, and thinking. You may be eligible to participate if you are between the ages of 14-25, have used marijuana in the past month, and have a sibling who is also willing to participate. This study is designed for the researcher to learn more about adolescent and young adult marijuana use. This study is not designed to treat any illness or to improve your health. The University of Colorado is conducting this research study to examine how cannabis affects mental health and cognitive function in individuals ages 14-25. Participation in this research study may help us better understand the short-term effects of cannabis use.
You may qualify for this research study if you meet the following criteria.

- 14-25 years old
- Have a same-sex sibling within three years of your age who is also willing to participate
- You or your sibling have used cannabis in the past month
Once enrolled, you will:
- Meet with a research assistant three times over 12 weeks. There will be three study visits (at enrollment, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks).
- At each study visit, you will have a blood draw, give a blood spot and urine sample for drug testing, and answer some questions. Each study visit will be about 2 hours long.
- You will answer questions on your phone by text message or email about your use of marijuana and your mood every week. Those questions will take less than 5 minutes to answer each time.
- If you are under the age of 18, we will also ask your parent to participate.
- We will ask your sibling to participate in the study, too.
Yes, eligible participants will be compensated for their time.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
